Fruits

We all know what fruits are but how many of you realize that there are many different meanings associated with this word. In fact, all depends on the context in which the word is used and you have to understand that we are not talking about the same thing when linked with biology or food preparation. For instance, in botany we will use the term “fruit” in order to describe a flowering plant’s ripened ovaries. To put it simple, fruits are basically a way to disseminate seeds. Seeds are usually associated with fruits although not all seeds out there will come from a fruit.

What we are interested in stands in fruit that is associated with nutrition. In this case we can say that we are talking about 4 main categories of fruits: berries, fruits from the Rosaceae family, tropical fruits and citrus fruits. There are fruits that we have all heard of like apples, pears, grapes or strawberries. There are also fruits that few people know about like Key Lime, pomelo, trifoliate oranges, goji berries and the list can continue. Keep in mind that we are only referring to fruits that can be eaten and can be put in a good nutrition plan. There are also fruits that we can not eat and to make matters worse, there are also fruits that are poisonous for the human body. It is our responsibility to make sure that all fruits we eat are good for us so that we can avoid any possible problem in the future.

The good news is that fruits are perfect for a good nutrition plan as they contain a lot of vitamins and minerals together with fibers. All three nutrients have to be consumed daily in different quantities. Fruits are a great source of vitamins and mineral. Have you heard the saying “An apple a day keeps the doctor away”? This can go for a lot of fruits and we are basically recommending that you eat fruits on a daily basis. The bad news is that sometimes fruits can be expensive and not all of us can afford to buy all the needed fruits. In this case we have to stick to purchasing the fruits that we can afford. We have to know everything about fruits so that we can know what to choose and how we can gain benefits from eating fruits. Remember that some fruits are better than others from some point of views.
